There are over 150 Catholic Primary Schools in the Diocese which are under the patronage of the Bishop. Each school is managed by its own Board of Management. Boards of Management usually have eight members consisting of 2 Parents Nominees, 2 Teacher Nominees, 2 Patron Nominees and 2 Community Nominees.

In Catholic Primary Schools religious education is part of the school timetable and the Catholic ethos is usually evident in the way the school carries out its service. The Catholic Schools are supported in their work by the St. Senan’s Education Office which serves the Dioceses of Killaloe, Limerick and Kerry.

Teachers in Catholic Schools work together with parents and parish communities to prepare children for the reception of the sacraments of First Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. The Diocese offers support to the schools through our Primary School Catechetical Advisors;

  • Sr. Essie Hayes
  • Ms. Anne McMahon (Gaelscoileanna)
