Dawn Mass – Quin Abbey – April 9th, 2023
As dawn breaks on this Easter Sunday here in the ancient and venerable site that is Quin Abbey, we are reminded of the newness and freshness that comes with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This great reality has been celebrated here for many centuries, but it is just as new and fresh today in 2023 as it was over a millennia ago.
New Life
Today, we gather to celebrate the fact that death has been conquered, and that we have been given new life.
Jesus is Risen – Gospel News
The Gospel reading today tells us of the women who came to the tomb, only to discover that the stone had been rolled away, and that Jesus’ body was no longer there. They were confused and frightened, not knowing what to make of this development. And then, they were confronted by a messenger who told them that Jesus had risen from the dead.
A Revolutionary Message!
This message was revolutionary. It turned their world upside down, and it challenged everything that they had ever known. For the first time, they realized that death was not the end, and that there was hope beyond the grave.
A Challenge for us today!
This message also challenges us today. It reminds us that we have been given a new hope, and that we are called to share that hope with others. We are called to be witnesses to the resurrection, to proclaim the good news that death has been conquered, and that new life is possible for all of us.
Continued Inspiration
In this Easter season, let us remember that the resurrection is not just a one-time event, but a continual process of renewal and transformation. Let us allow the risen Christ to inspire us and guide us as we seek to live lives of faith, hope, and love. May the joy of the risen Christ be with you all this Easter season. Amen.
